Over the weekend, my family & I took our annual apple orchard, winery, and cheese factory visit to one of the local towns (2010 visit here - not sure what's going on with the formatting). Although we didn't actually end up picking apples we did buy three 1/2 bushels: Empire, Spartan & Honey Crisp (my favourite). Apples didn't have a good growing season so they found it was taking people twice as long to actually pick the apples so we decided not to pick. I also tried a new type of apple or new to me at least, called Cox Orange Pippin which is big in the UK and New Zealand. It was delish and something different with a bit of a bite to it.
There are some other photos at the winery and the cheese factory. The winery is such a nice place; this year they were growing a bunch of different varities of trees like Temple Orange Tree (pictured above), Meyer Lemon Tree, Olive Tree, Fig Tree and a Pomegranite Tree. At the cheese factory they were sampling certain types of cheese - I love the Maple Cheddar so I usually get a block of that and Dill Mozzarella. I don't really eat much cheese but both of those are delish!
What are your favourite types of apples & cheese?
